Is there a "perfect strategy" in playing a game of Tic Tac Toe? In this event, participants will play Tic Tac Toe in an attempt to develop a winning strategy for the game. Participants will propose their own conjectures of what a "perfect strategy" would look like from their in-game observations. The mystery of Tic Tac Toe will be investigated with elementary concepts from advanced fields such as Graph Theory and Game Theory while allowing for participants to naturally engage in proof theory and mathematical thinking to formally verify conjectured strategies for a game of Tic Tac Toe.
The participants learned how to develop an ideal strategy for Tic Tac Toe by continuously testing cases (by playing Tic Tac Toe, of course!) with others and forming conjectures with their observations before finally learning how to test these conjectures using a min-max algorithm as can be found within the mathematical field of Game Theory.
